Time management concept for IQ exams

"Success in IQ exams is 40% knowledge and 60% strategy."

The Teaching Exam IQ paper (අභියෝග්‍යතාවය) is notorious for being a race against the clock. Most candidates fail not because they don't know the logic, but because they spend too much time on a single tough question.

5The 5 Golden Rules for Success

1. The One-Minute Rule (මිනිත්තුවේ රීතිය)

You have exactly 60 questions for 60 minutes. If you spend 3 minutes on one question, you are stealing time from two other potentially easier questions. If you can't figure out the logic in 45 seconds, leave it, mark your paper, and move on.

2. Categorize & Conquer (ප්‍රශ්න වර්ගීකරණය)

Scan the paper quickly. Solve the Numerical Sequences (සංඛ්‍යා ශ්‍රේණි) and Analogies (සාදෘශ්‍යතාව) first as they are often faster. Leave the long paragraph-based Logic Puzzles (තර්කන ගැටළු) for the middle of your session.

3. Pattern Memorization (රටා හඳුනාගැනීම)

Stop calculating squares and cubes during the exam. You should memorize Squares up to 25 and Cubes up to 10 beforehand. Knowing the sequence of Prime Numbers up to 100 will save you at least 3-4 vital minutes.

4. Elimination is Faster than Calculation

Look at the options before you solve. Often, two of the four answers are obviously wrong. By eliminating those, even a guess becomes a 50/50 chance. Don't waste time finding the exact answer if only one option fits the ballpark logic.

5. The Final 5-Minute Review

Never keep solving until the last second. Stop at 55 minutes. Quickly check your OMR sheet (පිළිතුරු පත්‍රය) to ensure you haven't shifted your answers by a line. A single misaligned answer can ruin your entire score.

Exam Structure (ගුරු විභාගයේ ව්‍යුහය)

Paper (ප්‍රශ්න පත්‍රය)QuestionsTimePass Mark
I. IQ / Aptitude60 MCQs1 Hour40%
II. General Knowledge60 MCQs1 Hour40%

Note: Some versions of the exam consist of 50 questions for 45 minutes or 1 hour. Always double-check your admission card for exact timings.

Pro Tip: Use the "Round" System

Solve the entire paper in two rounds. Round 1: Only solve questions you are 100% sure about (usually takes 30 mins). Round 2: Tackle the ones you skipped. This ensures you never miss an easy question at the end because you were stuck on a hard one earlier.
